While a graduate student at the University of Maryland, where he also taught courses in history, Bruce K. Byers devoted the summers of 1967 through 1970 to writing the Lunar Orbiter history as a summer intern at NASA. Earlier he had studied at the Ludwig-Maxmillians Universitaet in Munich, Germany. In 1971, Byers joined the U.S. Foreign Service, his first assignment taking him to Iran with the U.S. Information Service in 1972. His next assignment was as program officer with USIS in Bombay, India, where he now lives with his wife and three children. While in India, he has also written articles and lectured on the U. S. space program.
